Looking to rehome a deerhound was created by emma
Hi everyone
I have recently lost my greyhound and my 10years old deerhound is missing a canine friend so We are looking to re home a deerhound that needs a home. We have contacted all the local rescues but just wanted to post on here incase anyone knows of a deerhound that is in need of a great loving home. We would ideally like an adult due to my other boys age.
Thanks in advance

Deerhounds are extremely rare in rescue. Especially a pure deerhound; although deerhound crosses do turn up reasonably regularly.

It would be a good idea to keep an eye on the specialist lurcher rescues eg:

Lurcher SOS ; www.lurchersos.org.uk/
Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher rescue : www.lurcher.org.uk/
Lurcher Link ; www.lurcher.org/kaye/Lurc...kfrontpage.html
Forever Hounds Trust ; foreverhoundstrust.org/
Southern Lurcher rescue ; www.southernlurcherrescue.org.uk/

If you google you will find several more

Alternatively why not get another greyhound? As you must already know they are lovely gentle dogs which will suit your older boy and there are such a HUGE number in rescue all over the country you couldn't fail to find one to suit your needs. Try Retired Greyhound Trust (branches all over the country) or any one of the many independant greyhound rescues (there are so many - just google to find your nearest)

Chris Wilson is the deerhound club rescue coordinator . Email her at
Good luck with the search. Our big girl is missing her friend too but sadly we are not planning any more dogs until we decide if and when we may move.
