Just joined was created by coothoot
I've only just found the forum. I've been lucky enough to have lived with sighthounds for 41 years. Deerhound crosses have always been my real love and I have always tried to find a deerhound in need of a home. In fact I'm now desperate as its been over a year since my last boy died. He made it to 17 ! so it has taken me time to get over his loss. Now I feel ready to offer an understanding and loving home and find that deerhounds who might consider me are as rare as hens teeth !

Keep looking for that Hound. I've rehomed DH Harri who was found straying and taken to a Rescue Centre. I've also heard of another in Rescue and 2 DeerhoundX's and thats just in the last year!

Thank you for the info. I think the two deerhoud Xs may be the ones at Southern Lurcher Rescue. I've already tried them but we are too far north. They only rehome within 200 miles of their base . If you know of another please let me know which rescue.I'm willing to travel. I spend about 2 hrs a night looking for deerhounds or deerhound x greyhounds and I am still finding new rescues but not the right hounds !!!

One of the Shropshire places was The Shropshire Retired greyhound Trust, can't remember the other!

I found my 2 yr old Deerhound Harri at South East Dog Rescue!

Welcome. We Came across our Finn through the Dog Trust, he was found wandering in Wales and how lucky we were to get him. You can always try the Deerhound Club's puppy / rescue re-homing coordinator.

Have you had any luck in your search?

If not, would you consider a deerhound x ?

There are two puppies at Shropshire Retired Greyhound Trust, if you'd be interested. I know they are not grey!!! And only one has a rough-coat, but I'm sure they'll still be amazing (speaking as an owner of a not-grey, non-rough-coated deerhound X!!!!!)

I had posted these two elsewhere, but just in case you hadn't seen them.

They're still waiting - anyone tempted??

Thank you for thinking of me. I'm still looking for a deerhound or a deerhound X greyhound. But now it has be a bitch. I have just taken on a lovely big boy, no idea what cross he is, but I just couldn't remain dogless any longer! However I'm still looking !

I'll keep a look-out for you - seen several deerhound x in local rescues recently (no girls at the moment sorry)

A good forum to use to advertise your search for a deerhound x (apart from on here of course!) is "dog pages" - used by lots of people involved in dog rescue in the UK. Try posting in the "homes offered" section.

By the way, unless you have a specific reason why you know your new male dog will not get on with another male, I wouldn't rule it out. Two neutered males can be the easiest of pairings (much less likely to be problematic compared with having two females, neutered or not).
My own experiences include a male greyhound and male staffie x collie who absolutely loved each other and always curled up on the sofa together. I currently have a male deerhound x and male staffie x (both neutered), who get on very well and are good friends, never had any problems.
Conversely I had a male and female who didn't get on. They rarely came to blows; they tolerated each other but generally avoided each other.
It very much depends on the individual dogs involved.

Would love to see a photo of your new mystery dog so we can try and guess what breeds its crossed with! Any sighthound in the mix?

Yes, I've kept boys together in the past too, but I really do want another bitch and I feel that the house can take two big dogs, plus husband and self, but any more would mean that we would need a large tent in the garden. That is for husband and self . Dogs would be in the house !
As for Wilfrid I'll get a picture on as soon as I can . There may be a bit of deerhoud in there, there is greyhound. He has some deerhound ways but when he sees a rabbit he comes to attention like an Afghan !!! He is a real lurcher mix.
Thank you for the info and thank you for keeping me in mind.
