Sound on Facetime

The other day Chris and I were talking to our twin grandaughters on Facetime in the kitchen. The first time as they have only just got themselves an ipad. As soon as they heard the girl's voices all three deerhounds hurtled into the kitchen to find the twins, skidding all over the place and proceded to wipe DH slobber all over our ipad trying to find them. They sloped off after a few minutes looking very disappointed. They adore the girls but when we've used the speaker on the phone they haven't reacted like this. The quality of the sound must have been so much better than on the phone. Have other people found the hounds reacting to some types of sound but not others? dh:)

My hounds have the same reaction when I talk to my granddaughters on Skype :)

The other thing that they react to is the 'Go Compare' advert - they seem to like to song especially the bit at the end where it gets loud. They stare at the tv and wag their tails - weird dogs dh:)

Otto responds to certain kinds of music, he will sit on front of a speaker with his head on one side for Anne Briggs.
If the phone rings, he comes bouncing into the room, as if it might be someone calling for him but retreats into the sunroom if I play the MC5's - which I can probably understand, he is many things but never punk.

and if the song I have as my ringtone happens to play on my ipod, he comes bouncing into the room all the same but stares at me as if to say 'Hey! it's the song! the one that makes you suddenly jump up and warble funny sounds sometimes punctuated with my name, why aren't you doing anything!?!'

Following, turns out Otto's absolute favourite is this...



Not once has Otto ever howled until this came on my stereo this morning, I was out in the kitchen, Otto in the bedroom and it started quietly with a little 'o' and then longer 'ooow', by which time I was peeking at him and then he threw his head back, with full lungs, sang through till the end. Then Caruso came on and Otto just stopped. clearly not a fan of Caruso...

But I suppose likewise, I've always found Ave Maria so beautiful, it's quite difficult to suppress the urge to sing.

Im sorry it's not as classy as yours KB, Otto must have more taste than one of my old boys, but a lurcher of mine used to howl his way through this every time it was played

I was working away the other week and Face Time'd my husband in the evening, my poor Border Terrier, who was miffed that I wasn't there, heard me talking and was practically having a panic attack. He couldn't work out where my voice was coming from, so was haring round the living room, going up to the window and door then back to the iPad to try and find me, so sweet, but it put him all out of sorts for the rest of the evening. He is a Mummies boy!

Wendy! that's just so wonderful! this made me very very happy.

Sometimes, when I watch Otto climb on a sofa, anyone's sofa, it's his air of entitlement I just admire so much. But here it's Bree's sincerity. it's a private moment, just swept away (admittedly by a dreadful song) but with no thumbs I've seen how they struggle to flip a record...

But just brilliant, thank you! xx

Hermione our lurcher wags her tail if you speak to her on the 'phone and we used to have a dear old Border Collie who would sing (the wife said howled) at the theme tune to The Archers
