Thank you so much Barb and Richard , what a " Grand Old Dame " she is ! I think I knew her sister - Sage ? - who lived out here - also doing well in her teens , lived to be something around 11 years , still showing the light floating movement she'd always had had at 10+ years of age when she stayed with me for 1 week .

Wow 13 is quite some age. Just wonderful to see her. How about the siblings, were they long lived too or is ghost a "one off"? My brother lab died last year at almost 16 which was great, but a DH at 13 -super.

This is " Sage " , one of Ghost's litter sisters - she belonged to a friend of mine and lived to be 11.5 years . Here she is at 10.5 while boarding with us for 1week - always very elegant and light on her feet , still going on little hunts at this age .....She was looking for coyote and bear , then standing with a friend (my Na'lee , then 6.5years , in the background )- at the end of the day a well deserved rest.

Wonderful idea, I'm all for celebrating our golden oldies. I have added two pics of our grand dame, she's 9 years old now. She still loves travelling, who knows she'll be meeting a live chamois this summer.

What a great place to visit for a deerhound , especially for a " grand dame " , who might not be quite as fast as she used to be...What is her name ?

we all slow down a bit when we get older, besides she has arthrosis in het left hip, so we'll take it easy and so does she. Her name is Bonnie Bell, as in the poem by Robert Burns: The silent spring comes in rejoicing....

How lovely and graceful they are!
I do not have a senior deerhound - my two boys are 4,5 and 2 years old now. I hope they both will reach those respectable ages...

Deerhounds are so great souls...

Hi Jörg, the pics were taken in upper Bavaria, she and our other hounds (we too of course) love it there. Good food too!

Here's Claire with our 'senior' section - Cusidh Collie Hallaig (Hallaig) and his sister Cusidh Dain Do Eimhir (Eimhir). They will be 9 years old on Tuesday. Also pictured are Ch Drawing Down the Moon to Cusidh (Banrigh) and Riding the Wind to Cusidh (Creubhag) who are Hallaig's daughters. They will be 7 years old in December so not quite seniors yet.
