Re:Deerhound Feet 8 years 1 month ago #16522

Thought I would post a pic, this is Sheila, one of our latest pups, now eight-and-a-bit months old

The pics of the nice feet of your girls finally got me to search some pics I took some years ago of my own girls here , rather their feet - here the ( ugly and very , very unbecoming ! ) flat feet of 1 of them - as she hunts a lot I am afraid she'll have really bad arthritis later in life...

And this is , what I would consider correct feet - as my other 4 have/had.

Far from being the expert here but very interested in this topic could I just ask folks opinions after looking at the pics myself - if they are indeed flat feet or weak sloping patterns?

I know that CC's were withheld not long since, I think in protest as there was a lot of pre show chat about the judges treatment of an exhibitor so the entry seemed to be affected.......

As I replied 8yrs ago I could not agree more with Deerhoundlady ,I did not have Bruce my first cross Deerhound/Greyhound(Cooklands Deerhounds)
at the time as he is only 7yrs old,,from a pup I have kept his nails short firstly by using a foot file then onto a sanding attatchment on a small hand drill, and as mentioned I strongly feel this has kept the shape of the foot and helped to reduce the risk of possible toe/foot injuries wether the dog is worked or even in "play".Here are a few photos of Bruces feet note the length of nail and as you can see I can sand down to his quick(you can not do this with nail clippers) the drill has vary speed cost only £15 I can not praise it enough. Also just to add Verenav posted this photo of one of her Deerhounds feet exelent feet to me.
