i was very surprised when i talked to my friend who had d/h a few years ago bambi a d/h bitch and she told me she lived to 16yrs old? is this uncommon please advise

Yes this is uncommon. The average is around 9 but longevity has improoved due to good breeding practises and is not uncommon for a bitch to live to 11.

I have seen here in this forum, that lurchers often a higher age as Deerhounds.

I thought the oldest Deerhound was a bitch who died at 15 yrs old. Sid will know more, Tony and Astrid's Andersons girl.

That was Cistean - Astrian Bacaiche, born 23rd April 1981. I had her brother Bailc (Thane) and he lived to be eleven and eight months. Their brother Stripey (Banachaidh) made thirteen, as I recall. Cistean and Stripey won just about everything there was to win on the coursing field, but as far as I can remember they were only shown once or twice. Cistean was bred from and produced good coursing pups.
