TOPIC: Puppies on the Forum

Puppies on the Forum 7 years 7 months ago #20566

I like to clarify the position regarding puppies and the forum.

I want to run this site to meet the needs of you, the community, and I am always looking for ways of improving the site without increasing the amount of work it takes to run. We can't do puppy sales properly or safely so it's got to be not at all.

Please do continue share news of your litters, pictures and keep us updated with their development and progress.

Please do not offer puppies for sale or in need of homes. You are quite welcome to use the site's Private Messaging (PM) system to exchange contact details etc. If you need me to define this more clearly either PM me, or reply to this post.

No one should take this personally or take this as any criticism. This is a safe-guard for the future.

The Reason
There is no problem as such - at the moment, but it has to be one rule for all and this just keeps it simple. I have to remove spam posts relating to puppy sales. It seems to be getting harder to deal with and spot these problems quickly. There are other web sites for puppy sales which have better controls and resources for ensuring a safe and reliable service - something we can't currently offer.

Its difficult for me to keep track of who is a legitimate 'real' person and who might be a fraud. There is no manual control of who registers for the site and posts in the forum. There are systems in place to prevent automated processes from registering and posting on the forum, but these have not proved entirely fool proof. I also receive more complaints about puppy sales/breedings than anything else; it is one of those issues that people feel very strongly about so it will hopefully be less work this way.

Comments
As always I’m happy to receive your comments about this. There are lots of puppy sales sites on the internet, but I think the major difference is they charge real money, which filters out the bulk of the fraudulent and hoax messages etc.

Mistakes?
I do make mistakes and errors of judgment so if I have got something wrong, let me know. I'd like to have the chance to put it right and improve the site for everyone.

Aside from possible "frauds " a.s.o. , I would hate for this nice , international forum to become " commercialised " - as you pointed out , there is plenty of room in the "rest of the internet " for this ...

For what it is worth - as a 'newie' I agree too! However, I think any rescue dogs should be posted on here along with as many details as possible.
