Lodhainn \"A\" Litter details

I have to say this again, because I have been reading and re reading the above. I seriously do not think that this dog is in any kind of pain and you can spend an absolute fortune if you want to on MRI scans etc. I do think that she has just got the upper hand of you and will let you know, in her way, that 'I DO NOT LIKE YOU TOUCHING OF BRUSHING MY TUMMY' Now if she were mine, seriously, I would continue to brush her and brush her until she learnt that is is not acceptable to bare your teeth at me - ever. Remember, they are very big, powerful dogs and left unchecked could be disastrous, as I say, especially when there are children around. If your little girl were to pull her around the tummy, she could turn on her and as much as we love our dogs, I for one would not hesitate having a dog PTS if it showed aggression towards a child.
As I also said, Murphy absolutely hates having his under belly and abdomen brushed and gives me a look, which I then check him for.

Dear Lurcher 8252 and all, many thanks for your comments and interest.

Please be assured Willow has not bared her teeth or shown aggression ( save for incident when she was about 14 months when she decided the sofa was a better bed and she learnt her lesson pretty quick!). When I say she went for me in November , she let out a very high pitched yelp and turned her head round very quickly to where my hand was, and this was the same response with the vet. She was clearly in pain. I do not tolerate aggression and have never had that problem with her. Whilst she is a member of the family (comes below cats in pecking order) my priority is my daughter and I would never put her at risk. Willow is wonderful on walks, sociable with dogs, great with our daughter and her friends, I could not ask for a better companion but do not take any cheek from her.

I stoke Willow's tummy as part of our usual cuddles all the time to ensure its not a non touch thing and brush her on the tummy regularly. I put her back on metacam on Wednesday and she has been lying on her back with her legs outstretched which she hasn't done for a while and doing deeper stretches which makes me think there is something not right. We are seeing the vet on Tues and he is going to see if he can illicit a pain response before we take it further. Luckily she is insured and one of my close friends is an equine vet at the same practice and is taking an active interest so I know we are not going to be undertaking any unnecessary procedures.

I will talk to him about phytotherapy.

Many thanks

Personly I would forget about the vets and see either
A physio or chyropractor and ask them to check her out
She could have torn her stomach muscle, it won't show
Up on x-rays and vets are never any good at diagnoseing
Tears etc my vets could never find anything wrong with
My bitch, but 2 different chyropractors have, both
Found the excat same thing, now she's getting the right
Treatment for it, she's a lot better, with both her
Mood, eating and she's back to playing again.

I do hope Willow will be fine soon- always scary when they are in pain and one can not find out where/what it is exactly. Could also be something as as strained muscle- muscles take "forever" to heal and one has to be quite careful with the amount of exercise they get - and, what kind of exercise.Sudden movements as in playing/running hard are usually a big "nono"...
I understand fully well that she/Willow didn't show any agression , not even when in pain. In my experience- as an owner, trainer and also a SPCA employer- I do know though , that snapping/baring teeth and similar reactions are so very typical for animals in pain and, in this respect, fully tolerable for me. I would never go for any of my dogs was she in pain and because of that a bit reactive when touched in the painful places. How could I punish her for something like this? Any experienced animal/dog handler will know about this possibility andjust be cautious with an injured/painful animal.

hopefully if my chest holds out there will be another time for you to have a Lodhainn Puppy. Ian & Laura from the far north of Scotland are having a dog pup this time & we only have one dog pup not spoken for. Not bad for 16 days old. I do hope all goes well with number two....do we know which sex yet or is it a secret. Give a big kiss to Willow & let me have some up to date pics to put on the web :)

Thanks Shelley,I have good days n bad days (high pollen or the stress of having a society secretary causing my society mega grief at the moment). :( I have had confirmation I can have my first choice of names for the litter from the Kennel Club with a little tweak on the one we wanted here. I will post some pics when I have time, promise :) these are 17 + 18 days old....their first taste of rice pud
