These aren't specifically Deerhound Books but one book which is very useful for examining structure and conformation and has quite a bit of deerhound related information in there is:

K.9 Structure and Terminology by Edward M. Gilbert, Jr. and Thelma R. Brown ISBN 0-9678414-1-0.

Also there's a relatively new book out from a Russian author Eugene Yurusalimsky - Dog Conformation and its Evaluation. This book takes a different view of dog conformation by examining overall balance and lines using 'golden sections'. It's taking me a while to follow it but I'm getting there slowly. It doesn't have much deerhound info in there but does have a very interesting Borzoi section. ISBN 978-5-91491-009-6.

Just thought they would had to the list. Elise

Hey Joerg
My husband put together a nice little collection of deerhound books for me as a Christmas present a couple of years back. They included:

Juliette Cunliffe. Scottish Deerhound.

Audrey Benbow. How to Raise a Scottish Deerhound.
Audrey Benbow. Scottish Deerhounds.

Kay Barret. I want the one with the broken leg.
Kay Barret. Living with Deerhounds.

E. Weston Bell. The Scottish Deerhound.

Lea MacNally. Highland Deer Forest.

Like you, I too would be interested in knowing of other titles to add to my library.

As well, I've been collecting books on dog breeding. And both Verena and I are interested in the old time breed books, showing what the breeds used to look like a few generations ago.

:) We can never have too many books! :)

Hi Everyone,
There are several old deerhound related books available to download online.
One is called Forrest Sketches. Mostly about hunting deer in Scotland in the 19th century, most of which involves deerhounds.
Plus from memory some famous breeders info. Well worth reading.
If you go to 'Rougue' the deerhounds Blog (very interesting always)and search the archives there is a link to it and another old hunting with deerhounds book, the title of which a can't remember.
There is also 'Scottish Deer-Hounds And Their Masters' the definitive record of breeders and what hounds went were in the former British empire.
I saw this available as a free download from Barns and Noble, although It it was in the US only. I missed out on an original copy of this for just NZ $300 about a year ago.
Plus I found this just 2 nights ago.
chestofbooks.com/animals/...-Deerhound.html
5 short pages but some nice stories...I like the one about the Deerhound swimming the Loch to get home.
I've never seen Kenneth Cupples'book "The most perfect creature of Heaven" anywhere for sale, but it also is a DH classic. Perhaps some one can tell us?
Good reading!

Are you just interested in 'serious' Deerhound books, or about Deerhounds 'in general'? Seid Ihr nur an 'ernsthaften' Deerhound Buechern interessiert, oder an/von/ueber Deerhounds im Allgemeinen?

Hello Joerg
I asked my husband where he got those books and he said he used a variety of sources. The two by Audrey Benbow were found using Amazon Books. They have a section on that site that searches for out of print, hard to find books throughout a network of smaller bookstores. Then Amazon arranges for the books to be sent to you. Very useful.

He used ebay. Author Kay Barret lives in England and he rang her directly for her two books. And the Lea MacNally he found at a used bookstore here in Canada (Vancouver). That last one has references to deerhounds in it but isn't solely on the topic of deerhounds.

All part of the fun of seaching for books! Good Luck with your search!
Shelley :)

I'm an independant book seller and my supplier has access to a huge catalogue of books both in and out of print. If there is a particular title that you were struggling to find I may be able to source it – although it can sometimes take weeks to get an out of print title in. I’d have to put the transaction through my business though – it’s nothing to do with this website. So if it’s something you are interested in please contact me privately preferably with ISBN's and I'll see if I can help. Thanks
Rob
