All this talk about Silken Windhounds has got me thinking...what are people's thoughts regarding whippets?

I know they're ten-a-penny, but I think they're very graceful and lithe and would make good companions for our hairy, giant, gorgeous dugs.

They'd certainly be easier for our young 'uns to walk!

Can anyone recommend an excellent Whippet breeder?

Thanks very much,

Michael

Cant realy recomend a breeder, but can recomend the K9 forum,
theres lots of whippet (ped) and non ped owners on there,
theres a few litters anounced on there, and quite often dogs come up for rehoming,
manily from the racing side.

Hi Michael, take a look at my Daughter, Charlottes, Whippet on our website. We had Ellie because the Deerhounds are too big for Charlotte to handle.

I can highly recommend Ellie's breeder, Molly Head, she is in North Yorkshire. Molly has a website (Demerlay) and there is a link off our website.

Hi Sally - it was the pictures of Ellie on your website that first set us thinking, because your Charlotte is similar in ages to Claire's Sarah.

That, and the gorgeous whippets we've met at the coursing at Sue's.

After some discussion we’re now thinking that an older hound might be a smarter idea to set a good example for our two pups. They are quite noticeably leapier and bouncier than others and whilst they're lovely and happy, and we don’t want them to grow up too quickly, we think they’d benefit greatly from an older role model - particularly Murph.

So other than borrowing Sue's Poppy for a year or two, do you think it would make more sense for us to think of an older bitch rather than introducing another pup into our madhouse?

Does this all sound sensible, or just a bit TOO sensible? You have to be mental to be a deerhoudy person after all, and we're no exception!

BTW - should have said that if we go with Change of Plan then JR Whippet Rescue would make perfect sense.

Such a worthy cause. I'm sure they must come across some of show dog quality.

I have had rehomed whippet for a year now. He is Nevedith bred and a little love everybody loves Merlot. He lives and plays with Eris(nearly 4) and two pups, well a year old now Logan & Lily. He also goes out with Elsie Grey and Daisy May he thinks he is a mini Deerhound.I can recomend the Nevedith kennel and Dermerlay Mollie Heads whippets. I got Merlot from the whippet forum who sometimes have whippets needing a forever home or there will be somebody on there who knows of pups.

Michael, I take back all I said re children handling Whippets. Charlotte and Ellie won the Post Grad Bitch class at South Wales Kennel Association champ show last Friday.
Charlotte was so proud and she hasn't come down to earth yet!

Sorry for delay! I've been on Skye on holiday - just back tonight.

I noticed the result, Sally:

Absolutely brilliant - was well chuffed for you.

We still have hankering for whippets here, but can't, in all conscience, until work picks up here. Recession biting very hard :(
