Hello,

Joerg Yoki's Whisky Tasting - Part 2

Title: The Balvenie Caribbean Cask (14 Years)
Distillery: The Balvenie Distillery Company
Established: 1892
Place, region, country: Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland
Master Distiller: David C. Stewart (now retired)
Variety: Single malt Scotch Whisky
Aged: 14 years
Alcohol content: 43%
Information of the Distillery: The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 year old single malt whisky has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum.
To create the ideal finish Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums.
When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches.
The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.
Colour: Golden bronze (with dye (caramel) for even coloring)
Chill filtered: N/A
Nose: Sweet and creamy toffee on the nose combines with fresh fruit and Rum notes
Taste: Rounded with vanilla and sweet oak notes, with a fruity and Rum character that develops with time
Finish: Warm, soft, lingering and light rum notes (not smoky)
Rating of Joerg Yoki: 5 of 10 stars
Date of rating: 24/May/2020

Yep John,
10 points will be difficult to reach B) .
It is a very good Whisky. For me personally, the Rum comes through a little too much.
Of course it's a matter of taste.

All the best

Hello,

Joerg Yoki's Whisky Tasting - Part 3

Title: anCnoc Highland Single Malt (24 Years)

Distillery: The Knockdhu Distillery Company
Established: 1894
Place, region, country: Knock, Banffshire , Scotland
Master Distiller: Gordon Bruce (Distillery Manager)
Variety: Single malt Scotch Whisky
Aged: 24 years
Alcohol content: 46%
Information of the Distillery:
The distillery was founded in 1894 by John Morrison, who bought the land from the Duke of Fife to produce whisky for Haig's after several springs on the southern slope of Knock Hill were discovered.
A distillery like no other, traditional production methods are used to craft a curiously modern Single Malt. Proudly named anCnoc, meaning simply 'the hill' in Gaelic, every drop of this remarkable Scotch Whisky celebrates its Highland home, rich heritage and the spirit of Modern Tradition.
anCnoc 24 Years Old has been bottled in its most natural form – neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and as a result may develop a light haze with the addition of water or if kept at a cold temperature. This haze is a natural characteristic of whisky that is non chill-filtered.
Colour: Vintage amber (natural colour).
Chill filtered: Non
Nose: Densely sweet and spicy with a cosy embrace of Christmas cake. Rich yet crisp with notes of vanilla, set toffee and lemon juice.
Taste: Spiciness continues with hints of candied orange slices, warm honey and 'worn leather filling' the mouth with a symphony of maturity.
Finish: Long-lasting and pleasantly mild (not smoky).
Rating of Joerg Yoki: 8 of 10 stars
Date of rating: 07/June/2020

Cheers

Distillery: Highland Park Distillery
Established: 1798 (In 1825 Robert Borwick built today's distillery.)

Old Viking Saying: ‘I am a reflection of my ancestors and values. I keep them close and continue to learn, to pass on those values to future generations. My name is all I truly have. Let it be a legacy of honour.‘

Hello,

Joerg Yoki's Whisky Tasting - Part 6
Title: Caledonia Edradour (12 Years)
Distillery: Edradour
Established: 1825
With the Excise Act of 1823 encouraging licencing and reducing duty paid on spirit, it became more attractive to move away from the illicit stills to a legal entity. As a result Edradour was duly founded in 1825 as a cooperative of local farmers.
Place, region, country: Pitlochry (Baile Chloichridh), Perthshire (Highlands), Scotland
Master Distiller: Andrew Symington (Owner and Master Of The Quaich)
Variety: Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Aged: 12 years
Alcohol content: 46 %
Information of the Distillery: Caledonia Edradour is a special single cask release, selected by songwriter Dougie Maclean and named after his famous song, Caledonia. This handmade single malt is a small batch bottling. At a strength of 46% ABV and unchillfiltered, Caledonia retains maximum flavour with great depth and body. Initial maturation in Bourbon casks followed by an Oloroso Finish of 4-5 years. An old fashioned whisky for those looking for how whisky used to be made.
Colour: Bronze to copper (natural colour)
Chill filtered: no
Nose: Pleasant, fruity and slightly spicy with vanilla, sultanas and figs balanced with honey . Lovely and complex.
Taste: Sweet and strong with spices and a hint of oak. Liquid Christmas cake, toasted almonds and just a hint of orange spice. Just a little water opens up the depth and complexity as the fruitiness and Oloroso sherried wood comes to the fore. The result of traditional, time tested distillation processes rolls over the tongue like syrup.
Finish: Gently warming, spicy, more oak and dry sweet fruit.
Rating of Joerg Yoki: 7 of 10 stars
Date of rating: 12/July/2020

Cheers
