Hello,

Can anyone give any advise on whether a deer x collie or a deer x collie x grey would be a more suitable pet for myself and boyfriend? We live in London so would like a deer x that we can train thoroughly and will have good recall, and isn't quite as big as a pure deerhound. We're under the impression that crossed with a collie the dog will be a little smaller and also more likely to respond to training like a collie. If greyhound is also included in the cross can anyone tell me what the likely results on recall behaviour could be?
We also notice that a lot of deer crosses have bull in them too- can anyone advise on the effects of this cross.

Finally- can anyone advise of good deer cross breeders? Is David Platt still breeding?

So many thanks for any advise!

Hen.

Hi Hen
Before Deerhounds came into our life, we had deerhound x collie x greyhounds, the most obedient and easy to train dogs ever, recall was fab.
My two Deerhound pups (15 and 7 month) have great recall, I trained them using a clicker and treats.
Good luck in your search, I was looking a few years back and couldn't find any.
